Technology advancements have created new avenues for education, such as pursuing a master’s degree in social work (MSW). Students can just take classes from their home computers rather than needing to travel to a nearby institution that provides the curriculum. Since there aren’t many online MSW programs available, prospective students should exercise extreme caution before applying to these programs and signing up for any classes.
Graduates can apply to be licensed in their respective states thanks to this accreditation. The Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) endorsement of a program as meeting educational criteria is often sought after by states.
Schools that want to be CSWE certified must submit an application for candidacy, after which the provided online MSW programs are carefully examined to see if they satisfy all necessary requirements. Following the CSWE’s approval of a program, the institution may now promote its accreditation in its marketing materials.
There are a very small number of certified online MSW programs, but they do exist. Boston University, Case Western Reserve University, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and the University of New England are a few institutions that now hold approval. On the CSWE website, you may find a complete list of authorized online MSW programs.
Any online MSW programs having a conditional accreditation status should be avoided. The program in question is currently under examination by the CSWE and may or may not maintain its accreditation. Do not be hesitant to speak with a school personally if you have any more queries about the state of their accreditation.
